What it is
What is a floor-mounted console air conditioner?
A floor console is the indoor unit of a split system, designed to sit low on the wall or stand on the floor — roughly the size of a radiator. It connects to an outdoor unit in the same way as a wall-mounted unit and provides both cooling and heating.
Consoles usually have outlets at the top and bottom, sending cool air upwards in summer and warm air across the floor in winter.

What to consider when fitting a floor console
Clearances
Consoles need clear space in front and above for airflow, so avoid tucking them behind sofas or long curtains.
Pipe and drain routes
Because the unit is low, pipework often passes straight through the wall behind it to the outdoor unit, keeping things discreet. Condensate drains by gravity or via a small pump.
Conservatory considerations

Can a floor console heat a conservatory in winter?
Yes. Because warm air leaves at floor level, consoles are particularly good at heating glazed rooms, and as heat pumps they do it efficiently.
How much space does a floor-mounted unit need?
Most domestic consoles are roughly 70cm wide, 60cm tall and 20cm deep, and need clear space in front and above for airflow.
Are floor consoles noisier than wall units?
No — noise levels are similar. Because the unit is closer to where you sit, we recommend models with low sound ratings for bedrooms and lounges.
